It is usually used for news and blog website's, but can also be used for distributing other types of digital content, including pictures, audio or video. Feeds can also be used to deliver audio content (usually in MP3 format) which you can listen to on your computer or MP3 player. This is referred to as podcasting.
How do I know if a website offers feeds?
When you first view a website, Internet Explorer will search for feeds. If feeds are available, the Feeds button will change color and a sound will play.
How do I view a feed?
When you visit a webpage, the Feeds button will change color, letting you know that feeds are available. Click the Feeds button, and then click the feed you want to see. To get content automatically, you should subscribe to a feed. Click Related Topics to learn how to subscribe to a web feed.

How can I automatically get updated content?
You can receive content automatically by subscribing to a web feed. When you subscribe to a web feed, you set the interval at which Internet Explorer will check the website for updates. Once you've set an interval, Internet Explorer will automatically download the most up-to-date web feed list. Click Related Topics to learn how to subscribe to a web feed.

What are Cookies
A cookie is a very small text file placed on your hard drive by a Web Page server usually no more than 4kb in size. It is essentially your identification card, and cannot be executed as code or deliver viruses. It is uniquely yours and can only be read by the server that gave it to you.
If you have ever re-visited a website to see a welcome message with your name in it, or seen a comment saying you last logged in "whenever". The chances are this information was stored on your computer in a cookie the last time you visited the website.
What are Cookies For
In a nutshell a cookies purpose is to tell a server that you returned to that Website.
How can cookies help me
A Cookie can help you save time.
If you use a website that allows you to personalise pages, or register for products & services. A cookie helps the server remember who you are.
Next time you return, the site will know to show you the information you requested, what your personal preferences are, Or, when you registered for the product or service etc.
For Example if you use our forum, we recommend you have cookies enabled as the forum creates a cookie that stores when you last visited. Next time you visit the forum, assuming you haven't deleted the cookie, the forum page will load with a welcome note stating your first name & when you last visited or logged into the Forum.
The Forum can then display new Forum posts/entries only, or posts/entries from the date you last logged in. Removing the need to trawl through endless posts each time you log in. This is just one of the many ways Cookies can be used on a website.
Why use Cookies
Cookies allow/enable the website to be more efficient. The site can learn what information is important to its visitors, and what isn't.
A site can collect demographic information about who is visiting the website, How often they visit & how long they stay for etc.
The site can also use cookies to personalise pages, For example, If you use Amazon.com among others you will find that they display products based on past visits & cookie information. If you purchase a book on Military Aircraft next time you visit they will display relevant content based on the info stored in the cookie in this case: books, Military & Aircraft etc.etc.
Security Issues with cookies
Contrary to popular belief, Cookies cannot contain or be used to spread viruses and cannot/do not act maliciously on your computer system. They are a simple text file that is saved to the browser's memory in order to ease/facilitate the process of browsing that particular website. Cookies cannot read or access your hard drive to glean information about you, and can only be read by the server that gave it to you.
