Website Design Checklist

To enable us to provide an accurate quote for your website design we will require a few basic details about your requirements. Listed here are a few of the points to consider when planning & costing a website.This list is by no means exhaustive & for guide purposes only.

  • Purpose/Aims & Objectives of website
    To enhance a website there are an ever increasing Number of bells & whistles available. These additional applications usually have little bearing on the website itself & created purely for aesthetic purposes. Whilst we want a website that is both appealing & Attractive it is very easy to lose track of the website's objective. For example if your website objective is to make people aware of your company & to get them to contact you, then the website should focus its attention on this objective.

  • Limitations of Site
    Whether there are any restrictions placed on your new website. For example, Do you have to comply with your companies corporate colour scheme & font. Do you have a limited budget or time scale etc..etc.

  • Website Budget
    Whilst it isn't good policy to provide a budget to people you've requested a quote from, we believe this is a key point to consider when planning a website as its quite possible to create, for example a 5 page website for both £400 and £4,000. Having a guide starting price will enable us to focus more on what is & isn't available & subsequently provide a more realistic website design quote for your needs.

  • Website Construction Timescale's/Timeline
    A website can take anything from a few days to a few months to complete depending on the size & content required. If you have any particularly short deadlines for your website then let us know, as this could alter what is available to you & maybe alter the cost of the site.

  • Available Content & Assets
    Whether you have all the website content available or whether we at webpit.co.uk are required to write some or all content will have an affect on the overall website design price & Completion Time. Available content can include all forms of data from Price lists, Brochures, Product Spec Sheets, Newsletters etc.etc. Do you have a company logo & colour scheme that must be adhered to, or maybe a particular font must be used to match corporate image.

  • Features required on website e.g. Search, Forum, Chat, Flash
    Have you consider what facilities you want to have available on your website. There are a host of different things available like Web Forms, Surveys & Questionnaires, Web Forums & Guestbook's, Web Photo Galleries & Albums, Audio & Video, Blogs & Podcasts, Chat rooms, Website search, Flash animations etc.etc. As you can imagine, all of these features & applications will have some bearing on site construction time & cost.

  • Site & Page Layout
    There are several different page & site layouts available, Some more complex than others. As we at webpit design & build all of our sites to be compatible with all the major search engines, this means that site construction times will vary considerably dependant on which layout you choose.

  • Colours & Font Schemes/ Look & Feel of site inc download times, usability etc
    When choosing or deciding on a website design its always a good idea to have a colour scheme & font scheme that are "Web Safe". By Web safe we mean colours that are easy to see on a screen. colors that appear consistently, without breaking up and dithering, across web browsers and across computer platforms.

    Web Safe Fonts are fonts that are used widely throughout the internet again for their ease of reading both as screen & print content. Some fonts considered web safe are Arial, Georgia & Verdana.

  • Website Graphics & Logo's
    Using Primarily Adobe's Creative Suite, Illustrator, Photoshop, Fireworks, Flash Pro. Webpit can provide web graphics ranging from a complete logo redesign to a simple update for your old company logo ready for the web. We provide All standard Icons, buttons & Website Graphics free with the website design, However, The more Specialist, time consuming graphics projects may incur an additional cost.(This & other site specific details are discussed prior to any work commencing.)

  • Website Hosting
    Hosting with webpit.co.uk allows you access to an online knowledge base of help, tutorials, frequently asked questions, online messaging, site statistics & a personal webfile manager giving you total control (should you choose it) of all your website issues from uploading new images, text etc. To adding additional E-mail accounts & databases.   • New Content Updates, Site Maintenance & Servicing
    How do you plan to update/Upgrade your website. Do you intend to maintain the website yourself or leave it to webpit, how often is new content available, what sort of new content is available. Etc. We provide all website maintenance for sites designed, developed & Hosted by webpit as part of our Ongoing Search Engine Optimisation.

  • E-Commerce Requirements
    Will you be requiring E-commerce facilities? If so do you have a internet merchant account? Do you require basic paypal/Google Checkout Facilities or a fully integrated Online store complete with Full Content Management, Stock, Customer & Order Management Etc. Etc.

  • Web 2.0 Integration
    With Facebook just breaking 400 million users you can see that the social networking environment can be a very lucrative area for the right Website, Product or Service. There are a number of ways to get involved from Blogs &Podcasts, Facebook & Google Ads, Twitter, Myspace & Digg to name but a few.

  • Size & Description of Site
    Providing a rough guide to size along with an informative description of website needs will help greatly in our quoting process. e.g complete website for new company selling 26 golfing items from 5 departments, would also like a web forum, contact us form & a logo designing. We have 3 pics of each item to display & 2-3 paragraphs promo text for each. Will require full package including design, hosting, domain name & ongoing maintenance package.

  • Website Search Engine Submissions
    Search Engine Optimisation (Seo) is an ongoing process that can, if done properly have a major effect on your search engine rankings. Seo is sometimes offered as a stand-alone service, or as a part of a larger marketing program, and can be very effective when incorporated into the initial development and design of a website.
